ABOUT
National History
On December 1, 1987 at Binghamton University,
Founding Mothers Cynthia Santiago, Adriana Zamora, Carmen Ibeth Garcia-Quinones and Carol Elizabeth Torres created an organization that would not only serve as a voice for women in an academic setting, but would also provide sincere sisterhood and unconditional support while actively promoting academic achievement, service to the community, and cultural enrichment. Over a decade and more than 30 campuses later, the Hermanas of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority Inc. continue the legacy of our Founders' vision by effectively bridging the gap between the Latino community and the campuses we represent. Today, almost two decades later, our goals and ideals continue to be exemplified by our Hermanas: Sisterhood, Leadership, Community Service, Cultural Awareness and Academic Excellence.
Though Latina-based, Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. is a non-discriminatory organization made up of women from all cultures, creed, disabilities, political beliefs, and sexual preferences.

Our Chapter
The Alpha Rho Chapter of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. was established in the Spring of 2013 by four women who found the need for a stronger voice and bigger representation of Latinas and women at the University of Virginia. As Señoritas, we have expanded the Latino community on grounds and continuously display our leadership. We pride ourselves through our goals and ideals as we grow professionally and personally -Hasta La Muerte!

National Programming
The National Performance Team of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc., known as “BlackListed”, was formed to represent the Hermandad at both step and stroll events. The traditional step show is not an all-encompassing representation of who we are, therefore we do not confine ourselves to that mold. Sigma Lambda Upsilon’s National Performance Team does the Greek thing, the Latino way.
Sigma Lambda Promoting Education, the Arts, our Roots, Leadership and Service (PEARLS) is a mentorship program designed and geared toward girls ages 9 to 13 with the intention of instilling a sense of sisterhood, cultural pride, academic excellence and service to the community within its participants, through team-building activities and projects.
The Leadership, Advancement, and Development of our Young Sisters (LADYS) Program was established by SLU in the Fall of 2001 for girls ages 14-18. The program encourages the completion of high school, gaining college preparatory skills and successfully transitioning into post-secondary options. This includes acceptance into higher education institutions and starting professional careers.
